McKenzie's in-house architecture team is comprised of architects and designers that work alongside all of our build and craft services. The Design team is the first stop for a design-build project that a client wants McKenzie to take on. We ensure that as we explore designs for client projects that we also integrate cost and feasibility analysis into the process. Our Construction team speaks design, and our Design team speaks construction.
The McKenzie design-build process is an integrated project development and delivery process led by the client, with our architectural and construction staff providing keen insight and guidance every step of the way. We capture our client's vision for aesthetics and functionality, and help package it into a unique and successful development opportunity.
Our Design team creates a series of design and schematic plans that help our clients visualize their project's developing look, while also allowing the client to interact with our Construction team and explore pricing and value engineering options while finalizing the project's design. Once a construction document set is completed and permitted, our Construction team is already knowledgeable about the project's specifics, and is able to manage a more efficient project start.
Throughout the construction process, our Design and Construction team work together harmoniously to resolve any field issues that might emerge and to maintain the project's design and budget in-line with our clients' expectations.
Sustainability in our projects
McKenzie values our collective responsibility as citizens of our region and stewards of our planet. Our clients will always have the opportunity to partner with us in choosing sustainable and environmentally-friendly materials throughout the design process. We are skilled in exploring low VOC and low embodied energy materials and finishes and have experience integrating them into high performance buildings that in turn use less energy.

"Design must reflect the practical and aesthetic in business but above all... good design must primarily serve people."
- Thomas J. Watson
Our Construction division, McKenzie Construction, is a professional and proven full service general construction management contractor, specializing in luxury residential and commercial projects in Miami, Miami Beach, and the surrounding urban core neighborhoods. We are equally passionate about our residential and commercial projects, and we have found that maintaining a mix of the two has allowed us to become more and more versatile in our handling of different design treatments. Our veteran construction team has experience & success with both design-build projects and traditional architect-led design-bid-build projects.
The McKenzie Construction team consists of Project Managers, Superintendents, and a team of highly skilled tradesmen who passionately execute quality control on all finished product. We are focused on managing our subcontractors to deliver our clients' sustainable and high performance designs through an efficient construction process. Our skilled tradesmen team serves as a tactical finishing and punch-out team, filling the scope voids that are often created during any construction project.
We are equally skilled in the work that is involved in developing a homeowner's dream house, a new business owner's start-up concept, or a developer's larger core and shell owner-occupied or tenant-occupied project. Our passion lies in managing the construction process smoothly with high-quality communications and allowing the client to appreciate the development of their project's design.

"Each of us is carving a stone, erecting a column, or cutting a piece of stained glass in the construction of something much bigger than ourselves."
- Adrienne Clarkson
The McKenzie Craft workshop is a large 20,000 SF fabrication space that has all the tools and spaces that we need to be able to execute almost any wood, metal or concrete craft project and finish it in-house. We partner with many other skilled craftsmen throughout South Florida to collaborate with stone and glass materials. Our Craft team can either further customize a design concept created by our Design team, directly work for our Construction team executing designs guided by the client’s architect, or work directly with clients in creating a concept and taking it from start to finish.
We incorporate repurposed and natural materials whenever possible, and are mindful of cost efficiencies and unique design opportunities. We apply our knowledge of materials and their sustainable and embodied energy characteristics to help create stunning & lasting projects for our clients that are also healthy for their home or business and friendly to our world environment.
Our intention is to be able to execute and deliver on any project that our clients can imagine. We enjoy creating residential projects such as extra large built-in bookshelves or remodeling a kitchen, engineering a one of a kind metal and wood staircase, mastering the science involved with curing a concrete bar for a restaurant client, or managing the budget needed to execute a series of common area pieces for a new high-rise residential community.
