HOSPITALITY

ABOUT

Founded in 2005 by Gavin McKenzie, McKenzie began as a small, self-performing residential general contracting firm. The vision was to create a team of like-minded individuals who were passionate about the art and science of building and the improvement of others’ lives through sustainable and progressive approaches.

In 2009, with the help of an integral and passionate team, McKenzie evolved, expanding into the commercial space. Craft, McKenzie’s custom fabrication arm, was created in 2012.

Today, McKenzie houses these divisions under one roof in a unique 25,000-square-foot re-purposed warehouse from 1938. Our goal remains the same, to provide a comprehensive and transparent approach to construction that puts professionalism and satisfaction at the forefront. From adaptive reuse to new construction, McKenzie delivers client-focused and quality products throughout the South Florida area.

McKenzie’s purpose is to create beautiful spaces & products that improve the lives of those who inhabit & utilize them.

PORTFOLIO

McKenzie Construction has a distinguished track record of over 20 years in Miami and surrounding areas. Our extensive experience is a testament to our capabilities and commitment to quality. As a deeply integrated part of the City of Miami community, we have built strong relationships and a reputation for excellence. Our familiarity with local architectural styles, regulations, and community needs positions us uniquely to handle projects with precision and care. We’ve performed adaptive reuse, ground-up, structural repairs within the Wynwood / Design District / Greater Miami and the Beach as shown in the sample projects below.

PIER SIXTY-SIX

Fort Lauderdale’s iconic 32-acre resort has officially reopened, offering guests a seamless blend of modern enhancements and classic favorites, including the renowned 17th-floor rotating lounge. McKenzie Craft played a key role in this significant restoration, delivering custom fabrications across three floors with precision and innovation, showcasing the highest standards of craftsmanship.

Uniquely situated between two of Miami's oldest, and most charming neighborhoods, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove, Link at Douglas exemplifies the energy of the modern dwelling. From the lobby to the lounge, we used custom wide-flitch white oak veneer, brushed brass, black lacquer, and powder-coated steel in creating these feel-good spaces.

LINK        TOWERS

Situated on Miami’s historic Venetian Causeway, Bella Isla boasts luxury apartment living, complete with a variety of Craft fabrications, from lobby to leasing office and gym. Micro-cement and rope-wrapped columns, a custom reception desk, and suspended shelving greet residents and guests alike, while common areas are complete with custom seating, shelving units, and a variety of luxury finishes.

BELLA ISLA

The Harbour Miami is a private, gated condo community consisting of twin, 32-story residential towers in North Miami Beach. Our Craft team custom fabricated the millwork found in their lobby and common spaces using a single log of Eucalyptus to produce all of the veneer.

THE HARBOUR

McKenzie Craft completed an expansive scope for this luxury residential concept, featuring a wide range of millwork and metalwork fabrications. Popular for its elevated offerings, these finishes and fabrications complement the curated spaces, located on the Fort Lauderdale riverfront.

SOCIETY LAS OLAS

THE ESMÉ HOTEL

Designated a Miami Beach property historic landmark in 1925, McKenzie had the distinct privilege of rebuilding, reinforcing, and recreating the esteemed Clay Hotel. Along with Jessica Schuster Design, our goal was to create a village in Miami Beach that evoked the feeling of a faraway oasis.

The first stage of an impressive renovation project, Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort has received a considerable facelift, with a brand new pool deck and outdoor area allowing guests to take advantage of Sunny Isle’s magnificent beaches and the historic Newport Fishing Pier. With new cabana structures, a brand new pool deck, and an intricate array of landscaping and seating options, McKenzie’s work at this classic hotel brings it back into the spotlight, highlighting the new while maintaining the welcoming feel that this AAA Diamond-rated resort is known for.

NEWPORT BEACHSIDE

After a massive renovation, the Ritz Carlton South Beach once again opened its doors in 2020. Our Craft division was selected to create custom millwork throughout the lobby and common spaces. Walnut wall cladding, columns, reception and concierge desks accented with tubular brass work can be found throughout the lobby. The bar features a marble facade with solid brass inlays and oversized gloss lacquer cabinetry with brass embellishments. Metal rack shelving is accentuated by a brushed nickel finish, textured glass inserts, and integrated LED lighting.

THE RITZ CARLTON

Custom laser-cut steel sheets, a floating marble clad desk, and bright hued mirror screens line the lobby of SLS Brickell LUX. For the third SLS branded property in Miami, we created custom millwork pieces for the lobby and common areas including the hotel guest rooms and suites.

SLS BRICKELL LUX

THE BATH CLUB

A century after opening its doors, Miami Beach’s oldest membership club, The Bath Club, has been reimagined. McKenzie had the honor of working on the governor's loggia, private dining room, members cafe, cabanas, and courtyard.

KIMPTON ANGLERS

Located at the beginning of the world-famous Art Deco District, Kimpton Angler’s Hotel was originally built in 1930 by architect Henry Maloney. McKenzie performed a ground floor gut and rehab on the Angler themed property including the addition of a state-of-the-art kitchen with high-end finishes, a brand new restaurant seating area, and four new guest rooms.

THE ELSER HOTEL

The Elser Hotel boasts luxury living in the heart of Downtown Miami and the finishes installed throughout their lobby, gym area, and pool deck reflect that commitment to an exceptional experience for guests. Custom reception and concierge desks, a variety of custom metal paneling, and wall finishes throughout the building seamlessly integrate their amenities and quality of living with the abundance offered by the surrounding urban area.

McKenzie Craft was contracted to create a variety of fabrications for the clubhouse at Parks at Del Rey. Custom wall moulding, ceiling beams, and room dividers are featured throughout the space, while a grand staircase greets residents as they enter. Craft also fabricated the building’s bathroom vanities and the custom island in the center of the mail center, adding luxury finishes to the space’s many amenities.

PARKS AT DEL REY

FLAMINGO LODGE

Nestled in the heart of Florida’s Everglades, McKenzie has completed a set of four new cottages and a brand new restaurant space, highlighting the national park and the surrounding local landscape. Created utilizing both repurposed and new shipping containers, this project nods heavily to notions of sustainability and green building, from the solar-powered water heating system to the included landscape design, curated specifically to have the least negative impact on the surrounding natural environment possible.

We complement our client’s vision, design aesthetic, and goals by paying close attention to details from inception to completion. Our work is managed through a highly collaborative team effort that closely integrates the roles of the client, McKenzie, and third-party consultants to provide a coherent project team. We provide detailed proposals that reflect our deep understanding of the project’s complexity. Our proposals reinforce our efforts to achieve the high-quality construction and finishes our clients expect while leveraging ongoing Value Engineering to obtain cost savings whenever possible.

Our custom architectural fabrication division, McKenzie Craft, is staffed with craftsmen who produce some of South Florida’s best millwork and bespoke fabrications utilizing wood, steel, glass, or other materials which offer the opportunity to add further value to a project. McKenzie’s divisions, Construction and Craft, have the proven experience needed to complete our client’s most demanding project goals. We strongly value our client’s satisfaction and seek to create trusting & enduring relationships.
