As a renowned leader in design, Kartell features a product line of unique objects that delicately marries design and function. The brand brings this duality to each of its retail locations around the world, creating an environment emblematic of the company’s core aesthetic. With the opening of their Design District store, Kartell needed a contractor who could maintain their brand while constructing a space that innovatively showcased their products. John Ryan, Kartell’s Retail Director, notes: “Having first met the McKenzie team fresh off a job site, I realized that I would be working with a partner and not just another vendor or contractor. Coming from one of the most important design product companies in the world, that meant almost everything”. The project scope included a full interior build-out along with work on the exterior storefront. The space called for custom millwork, window display platforms, a stainless steel cable shelving system with custom-wire pulls, and bespoke Italian lighting accents and signage. Most notably, custom-designed elevated platforms are lit from within and offer a striking visual display throughout the interior space.
