As part of the development of Omni Park Miami, a 7-acre public, green space along I-395, McKenzie Craft worked with artist Michael Loveland to produce and install his Chainlink Chickee huts. Loveland's main vision was to relate the concept of old Florida meets new. The building process followed the Seminole chickee tradition of thatched roofs raised by supporting posts with open sides to set a community gathering place. The McKenzie team re-purposed some of the chainlink fence previously surrounding the large vacant lots-- taking the concept of a "fenced city", and turning it into art. Partners include: Michael Loveland, designer & artist, with the support of the Perez Art Museum. City of Miami partners, Commissioner Ken Russell, the Miami Community Redevelopment Agency, Brad Knoefler, MF Sirmans, Adrienne Chadwick, and Jonathan Loveland.
