Redefining a Staple: The Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort

After completing a substantial renovation of exterior elements for the famous Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, McKenzie has been contracted to turn our gaze to the renovation of interior spaces, common areas, and a plethora of the hotel’s rooms. With a newly remodeled pool deck and restaurant, the hotel will also feature a remodeled lobby, coffee shop, restaurant bar, ballroom, office space, and porte cochere. The scope of the build includes a large variety of finishes and custom pieces, from wood-clad walls throughout to new lobby desks and custom planters to reflect those already fabricated on the newly finished pool deck area. The goal is modernization, taking a classic well-known entity and revitalizing the space without vacating it of its intrinsic identity which has made it a staple in the area for quite some time. Such renovations come alongside the hotel’s initiative to rebrand to “The Sunny”. With the renovation led by HB Capital Group and totaling over $42 million, the results promise to further cement this hospitality landmark into the South Florida urban landscape.

But what has made the hotel and resort remain such a destination throughout the years? Starting in 1968, Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort has been an important part of Sunny Isle Beach and has continued to draw tourists and locals with its numerous amenities and its reputation for excellent service. Guests such as Sammy Davis Jr., Tina Turner, The Platters, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds (later Led Zeppelin), and a variety of other notable figures have stayed on the beach, and the hotel boasts a sizeable international guest list with tourists and business travelers alike taking advantage of the central location and beachside views. An on-site Aveda spa, fitness center, pool deck, kid-friendly spaces, and direct access to the Atlantic make it an ideal spot for any kind of traveler.

Newport Fishing Pier

Perhaps one of the most notable features of the hotel and resort is the access guests have to the famous Newport Pier. Over 776 feet long, this structure has been modernized with some of the latest structural technologies and has undergone extensive preservation efforts, largely funded by the hotel. With a contribution of over 2 million dollars, the resort has secured access to the pier for its guests, adding the pier to its already extensive list of amenities and drawing numerous tourists and fishermen alike.

Designated a historic site in 1982, the pier has undergone renovation, storm damage, complete demolition, and an extensive rebuild, all spearheaded and funded by the joint efforts of Sunny Isle and the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort as they work to maintain and promote the last public pier in Miami Dade County.
